BeeMp3 is a dedicated MP3 search engine to search for songs. You can use BeeMP3 to search for artists, songs or albums. In addition to that they also have a listing of World Top 10, US Top 10 and Euro Top 10 music charts on their home page allowing you to easily find the best music.

The most obvious name, I must say  FindMP3s has a cool 2.0 interface with a huge search form. It has the ability to allow us to browse the results by artists and the list of Top 25 hits.

Karabit

Karabit is the latest mp3 search engine I found. It also has a much simpler Google-like interface for a less annoying browsing experience. It has the most simplest search result page with only the file name, Play and Download button and the permalink. Hit the Play button, a small and cool player will appear for you to stream the file.

eSpew

eSpew is another search engine dedicated for finding MP3 files. eSpew also allows you to create playlists and view lyrics for a song, along with alphabetical listing of their archive files. The also have a toolbar which you can use to directly search for files from the browser.

Seekmp3

Another mp3 search engine Seekmp3 that very simply like major search engine. However, this search engine support various of language like Spanish , French, Chinese , Japanese and etc.

Music map

When you connect to Music-map.com, it asks you to give it the name of an artist. Then, based on what previous users have told it, it will display a cloud of artist names – the closer they are to the centre, the more likely you are to like them (or so the theory goes). If you want to look a little further afield, you can then click on one of the names in the cloud and it will create a new cloud with that artist at the centre.

Pandora

Pandora is an easy to use music discovery website that has been a favorite of mine for some time. Pandora allows you to create “stations” by putting in your favorite band or bands. Then, Pandora will play songs from that artist and artists that have a similar sound to your main artist. I like Pandora for its no frills approach, as it doesn’t throw a bunch of extra stuff at you.

Last.fm

Last.fm functions much the same way as Pandora, but focuses much more on the social network side of things. Of all the websites and services on the list, I use Last.fm the most. I have found that it has a huge library of tracks that doesn’t stop at the end of mainstream. Their library has exposed me to lots of unknown and underground gems.

StumbleAudio

StumbleAudio was covered in my previous post Discover New Music with StumbleAudio. It is a great service that is easy to use, but it has a smaller library that is mainly focuses around smaller unknown artists.

The Hype Machine

The Hype Machine is a very unique website, in that, it aggregates all kinds of MP3 blogs from across the Internet into one place. This way you can find out what bands everyone else is talking about and discover them for yourself.

Musicovery

Musicovery presents a much different experience than most of the other services on this list. At Musicovery, you choose genre, mood and timeframe in order to discover new music. This is definitely a very unique way to discover new music and is worth checking out.

Skreemr

Skreemr is an MP3 search engine that returns webpages where MP3’s of the artist you searched are posted. This allows you to easily listen to your favorite song by that artist. Skreemr also gives you the option to search for similar artists.

iLike

iLike is a music social network that is similar to Last.fm, but iLike integrates with your iTunes through a sidebar. This allows you to easily get recommendations from iLike and find more people with similar tastes in order to find find new artists.

thesixtyone

thesixtyone allows its users to “bump” up tracks by different artists. It functions in a way that is very similar to Digg, but it is only for music. This way you can find great songs and great artists by using the knowledge of the other users on the site.

Amazon

Amazon is a site that just about everyone should be familiar with. Back before I knew all about the sites listed above, I would go to Amazon and see what else customers bought when they bought an album I liked. If you keep doing this, you start going down a rabbit hole and can find some great music. The little snippets that Amazon lets you listen to provide you with a great way to sample the artists as you come across them.

Blogs

What list of places to find music would be complete without blogs? There are lots of great music blogs out there that keep you up to date with current artists and events. I subscribe to Stereogum and Pitchfork in my RSS, and I highly recommend them.

The best carols are those which appeal not only to the kids but also adults and old alike! In this article I am going to tell you about some of these carols, as well as where to buy them for cheap!

1. Chipmunk Song: This is one song which I cannot do without; I always make it a point to listen to this traditional Christmas carol every year! David Seville had sung this song along with Alvin and the Chipmunks! It has a subtitle called “Christmas Don’t Be Late”. It is a very short carol of just two paragraphs; in fact it is one of the shortest Christmas carols available!

However its length didn’t in any way hinder its success when it was first released way back in 1958! Even if you are not into the habit of listening to carols, I recommend you listen to this one at least!

2. Here Comes Santa Claus: This is another famous Christmas carol that should be in the home of every Christmas lover! This song has a refrain after every stanza which goes like this: “Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus, Right down Santa Claus lane”. Unlike the Chipmunks song, which is just two paragraphs long, this one is much longer, about four paragraphs in total! It was written by Gene Autry and first released in 1947!

3. Twelve Days of Christmas: Which die hard fan of Alvin and the Chipmunks haven’t heard of this carol? I recommend that you buy the Chipmunks version if available, since their rendition is exceptionally good! If you are bored and want a little laugh then this one is perfect for you! In fact you would find it hard to control your laughter as you listen to the funny twists in the rendition of this carol!

4. Up On The House Top: This is one more song from Alvin and the Chipmunks which is very dear to my heart. This is one of the hit Christmas carols composed by Alvin and the Chipmunks on their own! Released in 1998, this carol became an instant hit with kids and youth alike!

In a regular piano class the teacher helps the student learn and play the music of the “masters” with the help of a method book. And most students learn to read and write music in a year or two and begin to play fairly well. Most people find this really satisfactory and enjoyable. Actually all they want to do is entertain themselves and others by playing some really good music.

Actually there is nothing really wrong with this approach. But what if, you could express yourself and your emotions with your music, just like painters do with their paintings. You will be happy to hear that there is a way. And it is works with the Chord –based approach to music.

The chords of a pianist are the exact equivalent of the colors of a painter. Color, form and technique help create the painting of a painter whereas melody, rhythm and harmony are what helps the improvising composer to compose the music.

But the saddest part of it all is that students rarely learn this art of using the chords well. And if they ever do it is usually after they have become perfect in note reading and piano technique. The most creative and expressive music still takes a lot of dedication and long time to master.

I don’t know why this happens. But I am certainly sure of one thing…by no chance does it need to be that way. For example by playing a few chords in a unique and particular way you can compose your own music or improvise on others music. My free lesson “Reflections in Water” teaches you just this.

In the above mentioned lesson there are 4 modern sounding chords in the Key of C Major, they are all seventh chords played in open position. Using these kind of chords we can quickly and easily begin creating music.

Actually you need not be a Beethoven or a Mozart to start creating music like this. On the other hand the lesser you know the easier it will be for you to improvise, since you don’t exactly know what is to be done.

I feel learn the piano is much like learning art. You first always start with the title of the piece you will be creating and then you create the piece using a step by step method. This method is what I use to teach my student and they just love it.

In short I would like to say that classical method of learning the piano is not the only way. You can think out of the box and make your own unique music.

Not everyone can be as talented as the classical greats Mozart and Beethoven or even the modern day piano man himself, Billy Joel, but it is never too late to learn how to play the piano.

Children and adults alike can learn to play as long as there is a commitment to practice and the process is fun. The motivation for learning the piano is usually different for children and adults.

Parents are typically the ones who want their children to learn whereas an adult is self-motivated (probably because they regret quitting lessons as a child). There are numerous techniques available for learning to play at any age.

> Children’s Lessons

There are many methods used in teaching children to play the piano. Some techniques range from using bright pictures and graphics like the Bastien method, position-playing like the Faber and Faber method, to familiarizing them with the keyboard before reading music like the Rote method.

As in any learning environment, children respond differently and learn at different levels. The key to keeping your child engaged in his piano lessons is finding a teacher who can tailor her teaching to his learning abilities.

Other ways to keep your child excited about piano practice is to play with him. If you know how to play, join him on the bench. If you do not know how, let him teach you.

This way, you can check the progress and it lets the child use the knowledge he has learned.

Take him to a concert to see how exciting concert piano can be. Buy CDs of the greats, to include contemporary artists, and play them in the house and car.

Teach your child a bit of music history. Did you know that Beethoven lost his hearing in his twenties and yet he continued to compose and play with grace and beauty? This is a good lesson for your child, especially if he seems to be struggling with his lessons.

> Adult’s Lessons

As an adult student, there should be no need for outside motivation. Obviously, you want to learn to play either for pleasure or just for the challenge. Whatever the reason, you should find a teacher you feel comfortable with and who keeps the learning experience fun. Your instruction should be tailored to your abilities with a teacher there to support you as you progress.

However, just because you are an adult that does not mean you can skip practicing and ignore your homework. Your teacher will give you exercises meant to help and, just like the kids, you have to do it. Otherwise, you may be wasting money on a talent you will never realize.

Don’t expect immediate results either. Patience and perseverance are keys to your success.

If you do not feel comfortable seeking out an instructor, there are other options. CDs, DVDs and instructional books are available for self-paced, self-taught piano. However, nothing compares to having an experienced teacher right beside you to offer advice, praise and criticism as you or your child move through this musical journey.

Whatever your age, learning to play the piano unlocks your creativity and can enhance all parts of your life.

3. Take a lot of advice from experts. Focus while you play and learn on the areas they tell you to. The method your teacher and books follow may be a bit different, but always listen to what they say; they actually know how to play the piano really well. Do what they tell you, it will actually help you improve your skills.

4. Practicing the piano should be the first priority for you. And no matter how much you study or how many classes you take, you are not going to learn the piano unless you practice for at least 10 minutes a day. And remember to always begin your practice with a warm up session and then move into the actual practice.

5. Always take time to learn music well, I would suggest you to go one measure at a time. Never as a beginner will you be expected to play a classical piece from start to end. You could actually only play classical pieces only after hundreds of hours of practice. In the mean time you will be expected to take it slow and learn each piece measure by measure. And once you are kind of perfect with the composition you could move to the next composition. And always practice the ones you have learnt at lest once a week to keep improving your skills and to help retain what you have learnt.

It is a well known fact that CDs and DVDs are the most preferred storage medium available in the market today. Now by imprinting appropriate images and company logo, the discs are made ready for retail by custom packaging.

How to develop your classical piano improvisational skills?

I would suggest that you begin with an easy piano solo with just one voice in your left hand and your right hand.

Learn a phrase with a few bars by heart. Play the melody over and over again changing the melody slightly without losing the classical touch.

One advantage of using classical piano music in piano improvisation exercises is that you will find many interesting melodic bass lines in counterpoint style that you can use to enhance your piano improvising.

The use of playing separate melodic lines together this way to create music is known as counterpoint. Counterpoint is a musical technique involving simultaneous sounding of separate musical lines.

Classical piano compositions are filled with wonderful licks that you can incorporate in your playing.

What can you do with a classical piano composition to improve your piano improvisational skills? Here are some examples:

1. Study different ways used to play left hand bass patterns. Play around with the patterns and try to transpose them into different keys.

2. Study interesting chords, experiment with them, change keys and positions.

3. Find chord progressions to develop.

4. Find interesting passages with unusual musical material.

5. Many more things.

As I can see it there are two different approaches to learn and work with the material mentioned before:

1. You can memorize the classical material and start a growing bank of chords, unusual melodic phrases, chords progressions and other classical piano oriented material you’ll find in the piano compositions for further use in your piano improvisations.

This approach will of course develop your skills but it will also be a very time consuming and maybe overwhelming if you can’t devote all your time to piano playing. Who would that be?

Another drawback is that you might lose interest in this type of piano skill development because of the stress involved in learning so many different skills and maybe the joy of playing piano will diminish.

2. Another approach is to use the before mentioned methods in a more laid back way without learning everything by heart. Let me give you an example from my childhood:

When I was quite young I used to read a lot of books on popular science from the public library. I had a bunch of books laying beside me as I lay comfortably on my bed with pillows and just having a good time.

I never felt compelled to read a book from cover to cover or to read in a certain way. The only thing I did was to read the things I was interested in, looking at pictures and enjoying what I did.

I know I learned a lot from these nice reading experiences. If I had a goal it was to feel good and I was reading out of curiosity.

I think you can do the same with the classical music you play. If you enjoy discovering the secrets in the piano sheet music the way I have mentioned, you are sowing seeds that will sooner or later manifest themselves in your playing.

The classical music will creep out in your fingers and you will feel new ideas coming up in your piano improvisational endeavors!
