If a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) or cable Internet connection is not an option for your area, you can always opt to install a satellite broadband Internet connection, as long as you have a clear view of the south for your satellite dish installation.

Satellite broadband Internet is generally available nationwide and contains access speeds of up to 5.0Mbps (megabytes per second). Most providers guarantee instant Internet access through a two-way satellite service and offer telephone support around the clock.

To obtain a satellite broadband Internet connection, you will need to place an order with a high speed satellite provider such as HughesNet. Upon placing your order, you can schedule installation service with your chosen provider who will perform a site survey to determine the best position for your satellite dish. The signal is provided from the south direction so you will need to have the satellite dish positioned with a clear view of the south.

The installation will involve mounting and pointing the dish as well as performing tests to determine whether or not there are other electronic entities that are interfering with the satellite signal.

Once the satellite dish is properly placed the process of obtaining a broadband Internet connection is fairly straightforward and simple. Your installer will use two cable wires that will connect from the satellite dish to a dedicated wall jack in your house. Once this is accomplished, you simply test the strength of the signal and then proceed to configure your computer to the connection.

In general, the hardware for mounting and connecting the satellite dish is included as well as the cables, wall jack installation, and modem configuration. Other added fees could possibly include driving distance to the job location, additional computer work, or removal of the old satellite dish.

Be sure to choose a provider that offers a two-way connection otherwise the speed of your broadband connection will be significantly slower. With a two-way connection, the information is downloaded and uploaded through the same satellite connection. A one-way connection will download through the satellite and then upload through your telephone line, which slows up the data transfer process considerably.

Most satellite broadband providers will offer several different service plans and additional charges may apply, depending on what needs to be accomplished to make the installation successful.

As a general rule, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) does not allow you to do your own installation, due to the fact that FCC federal regulations are strict with regard to the way the satellite dish is pointed and how the antenna is positioned.

If you live in a rural area, a satellite broadband Internet connection could be your ticket to high speed Internet access with a service that is very comparable to a DSL or cable Internet connection. DSL and cable providers often overlook rural areas or the cost of running the lines makes the project prohibitive. With new satellite broadband Internet service, dial-up is no longer the only option for rural residents.

Whether you are a business or residential Internet surfer, a wireless Internet connection or Wi-Fi can significantly improve your computing experience with lightning fast broadband speed as well as improved mobility.

With our rapidly growing technology oriented society of personal digital assistants, cell phones, and other mobile technology, the demand for wireless connections with increased broadband width has significantly increased over the last few years.

Wireless Internet connectivity has become more affordable and reliable thanks to the advances in bandwidth technology that provide data transfer up to two megabytes per second where the norm used to be one megabyte. Additionally, a wireless broadband connection is more reliable than a satellite connection because the signal does not have to travel as far for data transfer to commence.

A wireless Internet connection also provides a fast response when you download Web pages and facilitate email messages due to the improved bandwidth technology. Interactive applications such as videoconferencing, chat, gaming, multimedia programs, and social networking, are much easier to use and navigating your computer in general becomes much more efficient.

For the residential Internet surfer, wireless Internet connectivity means being able to access a high speed connection without having to install fiber or any associated extra lines. What’s more is that you can create a complete wireless Internet connection throughout your home that will allow you to access the Internet anywhere within a one-hundred foot range. This means you can sit out on your deck with your laptop if you wish or move about freely within your house without sacrificing Internet connectivity. With wireless Internet you are no longer limited to one room of the house or even one computer.

Wireless Internet connectivity also has a distinct advantage over a network because it is easier and more cost effective to set up without the necessary wires that are usually required for a conventional network configuration.

For the business user, wireless Internet connectivity means the sky is the limit with regard to mobility. Business people are no longer chained to a desk and can network with colleagues from anywhere, at any time, and in any place via email, instant messaging, and Web cam conferencing.

If you have recently purchased a new PC, you will find that most of them are equipped with wireless capability as a standard feature. This nifty feature will automatically find the nearest wireless access point and automatically connect to it, unlike the older methods of having to configure your computer to access a connection.

Wireless Internet connectivity also allows you to use your PC without the complications of devices that require connection with a cable. With a wireless connection, the devices are enabled with what is called Bluetooth capability and they will easily work with any wireless connection.

Wireless technology has also increased its advantages with new breakthrough devices such as wireless stereo speakers, headphones, computer peripherals, televisions, and microphones. Without a doubt, we are rapidly becoming a wireless society and in many ways the advantages are leading to a less stressful and easier way of life in both the personal and professional venues.

High speed Internet service has gone from being a rarity to being common to being essential. It is difficult to function in today’s society without being referred to a website. Since high speed Internet is so widely available, companies have made their websites more and more complex, even including audio and video with fancy graphics. Some people still can’t get DSL Internet from their phone company. Fortunately, high speed Internet service is available to everyone now through wireless technologies.

The most common forms of high speed Internet service are cable Internet and DSL Internet from the phone company. Wireless technologies are available for people who can’t get these popular services. The most common wireless options are satellite and rural 802.11 wireless, but a new option has become available that seems to be gaining acceptance: Wireless Internet from cellular wireless providers.

The satellite companies usually restrict the amount of data you can access during a day, and if you go over the limit they “punish” you by slowing you back down to modem speeds for a day, just to remind you who’s boss. Rural 802.11 service is a mixed bag. 802.11 was meant to be a local standard for short distances, and does not travel well through trees, which seem to be plentiful in many remote areas. Be sure that there is a no-cost trial period, or that the service provider will prove out your service in advance.

The newest option for high speed Internet service is the laptop card or air card. First envisioned as just a service for mobile warriors, these cards are finding their way into more homes and businesses now. They are a better solution for most people than 802.11 or satellite, and the service is available in almost every area with a town of more than 20,000 people or near a major freeway. This is the result of cell phone operators moving to “3G”, also called EDVO, which is just a high data rate service. Even better, the war between the carriers means that 3G speeds will constantly be on the increase.

Unlike 802.11 providers, the cellular companies have equipment designed to deliver service everywhere, and many delivery towers. Unlike satellite service, the data limitation for laptop cards is 5 Gigabytes for the month. No daily limit is in play, and the provider allows you to check your usage each day on their website. Most users won’t be checking, because 5 Gigabytes is more than most customers will ever use in a month. You just have to be conscious of large downloads. If you want to download a lot of large files, a trip to the coffee shop is in order.

Check the services in your area, both with the data coverage map, and by finding out from neighbors which cellular data service works best in your neighborhood. Once you get the card, be sure to take advantage of technical help from the company on how to best install it, and how to share the connection if you have more than one computer. Windows has an Internet Connection Sharing service that lets all your computers share the high speed Internet connection from the laptop card.

We all have had people that we’ve made good friends with over the internet. Some of us also have had crushes on one of our internet buddies. But for some odd reason you just happened to lose touch with them. With the internet and only having an email address to go off of, it can be very tedious to find your long lost pal. This is very useful for you if you do online dating. This way you can find out who is really behind that email address to be sure of your safety.

One thing you can do if you have not already done this is use a search engine. Just type in the email address and check each page that seems to have more information about the email. A lot of people tend to add their personal information on some accounts. Specially with membership sites that they enjoy the most. You can try finding some information by using this method. Keep in mind though that this doesn’t always work but it’s a start.

Next you can look for directories that contain a database of email addresses. You can first start looking in the free ones but not many people have had much success with this. It’s free so it’s worth a shot.

Now if your looking for a solid solution then you can use services which are specialized in this field. They can provide you with better information and the process is very fast. Within minutes you’ll have all there is to know about the email address your searching for.

With the help of a reverse email directory you can easily and quickly check up on anyone just from a simple email address. Now if you truly do want to find your long lost friend or someone who was very close to you then by all means do not hesitate to click here!

Everyone has seen the commercials about the cable company saying how there Broadband is seven times faster than the DSL offered by the Phone Companies. What they don’t tell you is that they mean their highest speed is seven times faster than the low speed from the phone company(DSL). Their commercials make it sound like the product they offer is far superior to what the phone company has to offer.

The truth is, if the cable companies offer 8 meg. service and the phone company offers 8 meg. service, they are the same speed. The difference is the 8 meg. service from the phone company is yours, and yours alone. No one else shares your line. The cable company makes you share your service with your entire neighborhood. Let me explain.

Your telephone and Internet service, in many cases, comes from a remote terminal somewhere near your home, this remote terminal is fed by fiber optics. From there your service comes to your home on 2 copper wires. Those wires go nowhere else but from that remote terminal to your house. This is what separates DSL from the phone company, and Broadband from the cable company. The cable company also brings fiber optics to whats called a “node”, which is also somewhere near your home, but that is where the similarities end. From the “node”, your service is brought to you on 1 copper wire. This may not seem like a big difference, but it is. You see, that 1 copper wire can feed hundreds of homes in your area. This means that you are sharing your Internet bandwidth with everyone in your neighborhood. So if your neighbor gets broadband Internet, and their neighbor gets broadband, and so on, they will all share the same line. This, in many cases, will cause your service to slow way down or even go out completely. The more people with broadband the worse it gets for your service and speed.

Pricing is no longer an issue on any of the services. Both the cable and phone companies are always in pricing wars, so this means low prices for you. To get the most out of your money though, my choice is DSL.

About The Author: My name is Mike. I have been in the communication industry for over 11 years. I have worked for both the cable company, and the phone company. I have worked with fiber optics, setting up internet service for dsl and broadband for Charter Cable and AT&T. These are my opinions, but are backed by everything I have experienced through my many years of service working with each company.

A Yagi Antenna is a strong wireless antenna (802.11 protocol and finely tuned for 2.4 ghz). The Yagi antenna was invented in 1926 by Shintaro Uda of Japan. The Yagi antenna was first widely applied during WWII on allied aircraft radar.

Yagi Wifi antennas are particularly interesting for 3 major reasons:

1- They are especially tuned to get the strongest signal possible from WiFi 2.4ghz bandwidth.
2- They are designed to be installed with a WiFi router so one can connect to far away signals and then repeat this signal throughout your home or office.
3- Special weather resistant coatings ensure long service.
Combine the Yagi antenna with a basic low cost router loaded with free opensource firmware and the router transforms into a $600 professional full featured router.

Some of the more interesting features are as follows:

1-You can use your firmware enhanced router as a repeater, so you can retransmit the output of the yagi antenna throughout your home or, send your personal WiFi Connection to a distant location.
2- You can install a number of routers throughout a diverse area, and then link them together to form a WiFi umbrella throughout a large area.
3- The router firmware allows you to tweak the emission strength of the router by a factor of 8!

In July 2008, the sales of laptop computers exceeded the sales of traditional computers. All modern laptops have built-in WiFi adapters, but these adapters are not designed to utilize distant WiFi signals. A Yagi antenna coupled with a firmware enhanced router effectively becomes a ‘Wifi repeater’. With Wifi access now coming from a remote location, the homeowner can save over $500 a year in internet connection fees.

Okay, so you’ve got a cable modem and a TV; (and a cable subscribtion) and you’d like to make it all work at the same time. All you’ve got to do is locate the cable outlet, remove the cable going into the outlet, and get another cable and attach it to a splitter’s “IN” and place the other end of that cable into the wall plate. Next, take another RF coaxial cable and put one end of it into the “OUT” on the splitter and place the other end into the TV. Reconnect the cable modem’s coax into the “IN” on the splitter. That’s pretty much all you need to do; and there’s some things that you should know about this connection before you attempt it.

Do you want to know how to get the best deal possible on the new Verizon FiOS services? FiOS is a cutting edge fiber optic based network for digital TV, digital VOIP phone and the fastest Internet connection on the market. FiOS services are already a great value with prices that are about the same as or less than satellite and cable TV and Internet plans but there are some ways that you can get an even better deal on Verizon FiOS services. If you are hunting for the best deal possible on a new FiOS phone, Internet and TV services here are five ways to get a great deal:

1. Introductory Pricing – In most places new Verizon customers can get great trial offers on FiOS services. If you have never been a Verizon customer before or if you haven’t tried the FiOS services before, you can qualify for introductory pricing from VerizonFiOS. The prices vary from location to location so you should talk to a local Verizon representative to find out what the introductory FiOS prices are in your area.

2. Bundles – Verizon FiOS Bundles are the best way to save money on FiOS products. If you already have Verizon wireless service you can get good deals on digital TV and high speed Internet. If you don’t already have a phone then you can get Verizon FiOS TV, digital VOIP phone and high speed Internet for about $100 per month depending on where you live. That’s called the Verizon FiOS Triple Play bundle and it’s the most popular bundle that Verizon FiOS offers.

3. Upgrades – If you’re already a Verizon customer and you want to upgrade to the FiOS network call a Verizon customer service rep or shop online to get special pricing for existing customers. Often you can upgrade to the FiOS network for a special rate since you’re already a Verizon customer. You might even be able to get a free trial of the FiOS services if you are already a Verizon customer.

4. Talk to a Customer Service Rep – When you’re signing up for the VerizonFiOS network it pays to talk with a customer service rep because often customer service reps are authorized to give promotional pricing to customers that fit certain criteria. When you call the customer service line for Verizon FiOS ask the customer service rep that you talk with about any available promotional pricing for students, new customers, or whatever group you fit into it. Chances are you can get some kind of deal that way.

5. Shop online – When you build a custom bundle for yourself online you can get lots of savings on the Verizon FiOS services. At http://www.ifibercompany.com, they are a consumers guide and resource to VerizonFiOS and offer great tips, articles and savings. Sometimes it takes awhile to choose all the channels you want on your digital TV service and go through all the other many options that FiOS has but when you do you’ll see that you can get great savings. You can also usually schedule the installation and confirm the installation appointment with a customer service rep all online.

If you have a connection to the Internet at home or in the office, or read the newspapers regularly or keep track of the latest technology trends, you may have frequently come across references to networks. Networks of computers were associated with industries and government bodies just a couple of decades ago. In current times, having a network at home is very common. Both Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) are used to provide networking for computer users.

A typical use of a LAN is to provide Internet connectivity simultaneously to all the users in a home with a single Internet connection. All the Internet-capable devices available in the home can be configured as nodes in a LAN and can be connected to the Internet via a computer designated for this purpose. LANs can also be used to connect workstations in an office environment in a similar fashion for providing access to shared resources like printers.

A LAN uses 10baseT twisted pair cables or wireless networking to connect computers to form a network. There are some vendor specific connectivity solutions available for proprietary LAN topologies.

WANs are also made up of networks of computers – the difference between a LAN and a WAN is merely one of degree. A WAN may be composed of thousands of LANs all networked together. A LAN may typically span a building whereas a WAN can cover a wide geographical area, transcending state or national borders. In a LAN, the distance covered is typically of the order of feet in contrast to a WAN where distances are of the order of thousands of miles.

A WAN is implemented by using leased lines provided by a service provider or by using packet switching networks to transmit the data within the network. One of the most well known examples of a WAN is the Internet.

Many people today are purchasing aircard service from cellular wireless companies. The aircard, or laptop card, makes use of the advanced data networks used by the latest phones, known as EDVO or 3G. The new phones talk, text, and surf over these wireless broadband data networks. With so many choices in aircards, how does a non-technical consumer make a decision?

The first thing to decide is if you are going to use your aircard at a single location, or if you are going to roam. If it is at a single location, you can focus on that location to measure performance. If you can find neighbors in your area with 3G phones, ask them to run a mobile speed test. A more thorough way is to get the providers to loan you a card for a day so that you can test it at your location. Plug it in your computer and run the speakeasy speed test. Always pick the same city. Although true geeks would find this test to be too simplistic, it already seems like too much work to me.

If you are going to be roaming, you want to look at the coverage maps. A good online store will have a link to the coverage map on the same page as the aircard sale page. The maps aren’t perfect, but they show the degree of coverage. Be sure you are looking at data coverage, The further down the list you go on the coverage color key, the slower the service will get. Also, a strong area on the coverage map is means strong average coverage. It doesn’t guarantee anything at any individual point. The type of aircard is usually secondary to the signal strength, and strength will vary due to tree load, buildings, and other interference sources.

How about service? Does your vendor advertise the fastest network or the best support or the best customer service? You can pretty much ignore these, but if you can find someone who already has a laptop card or 3G phone from your chosen vendor that is working in your areas, your experience will likely match his. I have a definite preference in the area I live, but my favorite vendor may be terrible where you are.

Once you have the vendor, you need to pick a card. This is mostly a convenience for you, so the simplest connection is to use a USB aircard. If you have an older machine, it may not have USB2, so it might be a little slower, but the flexibility and simplicity make it worth it to me. A USB extension cord for the device is handy too, and some devices are shipped with them. Remember, this is a radio antenna, so don’t bury it in a wood and steel desk and expect it to be at its best.

Aircards today are often as fast as DSL, and they will only continue to get faster. A little effort up front to find the best card is smart, and it is equally smart to do it again when your contract expires, because things keep changing.
