Just one day after Yahoo announced they’re adding support for images and video in their search ads, Google decided to spice up their AdSense ads a little – but just a little.
Now, instead of being stuck with the default font for all your AdSense ads, you can choose between three different font faces: Arial, Times and Verdana.
While the choice is not as funky as some publishers would want, it’s still better than being stuck with “Standard AdSense font family,” which is still the default. Beware, though: as Google warns on the official AdSense blog, the standard font has “performed well across browsers and displays.” By changing the font, your results might get better, but they also might get worse.

Remember why Google AdSense became so popular in the first place? It was because the folks at Google had realized that flashing banners, animations and images don’t work that well in the context of a search result listing. Thus, they created very simple text-based ads that weren’t all that different from the search results itself; it worked great, and everyone (including Yahoo) had done pretty much the same thing.

Now, Yahoo thinks that this strategy has run its course, and they’ve introduced a new kind of search ads – Rich Ads. These enable publishers to add images, videos, and custom search boxes to their search ads – precisely the sort of thing that stopped working several years ago.

Google Reader is an extremely fast, uncluttered, easy-to-use, and probably the best web-based FeedReader. It incorporates several desired features: ‘feed tagging’ letting you tag and store desired items for future reference, ‘item starring’ to star important items on-the-go, and perfectly implemented ’sharing’ feature that lets you share items with friends not only via email but also through an RSS-enabled webpage. Whether you’re a feed-loaded blogger or an occasional reader who is unfond of StartPages and looking for a simple yet sufficient feedreader than definitely give it a try.
The best part of Google Reader, like in the case of other Google Goodies, i.e. Gmail and Google Calendar, there are many third-party tools making it even better. These include new item notifiers, addons for offline access, Greasemonkey scripts, one-click shortcuts and more.
(1) Google Gears – recently released open source browser extension that lets you run web applications (incl. Google Reader) offline. Once installed, login to your GReader account and you’ll see a small green circle next to the right top menu. This button lets you download your feeds to your PC and afterwards access GReader offline. Everything you have done while being offline will be synced with your Greader account during the next time you go online.

Well, not literally, of course, but now you can access Gmail even when you’re offline. The Ninjas over at the Gmail team have created a masterpiece and are inviting you to give their new offering a spin.
Too Dramatic, was it ?
Well, the reason that I’m being so dramatic is that the feature that Google has released this time is one that I’ve been personally waiting for ages and definitely deserves this attention.
The big deal is that you can now access and use Gmail offline, that is without Internet connection. Obviously, you will not be able to send any emails while you’re offline, but atleast you can read them, and any emails that you send during this time will be queued up and delivered the moment you get back online. Anyway you look at it, this is an incredible feature to have.
To be able to access Gmail account offline, you’ll need to first download and install Google Gears. If you’re using Google’s Chrome browser, though, you can relax since Chrome comes with Gears installed by default.
