The beginners guide to the art of search optimization
It goes without saying that those that write/read books sing their praises and those that blog know that their way is best and forum hounds know that is the way. Each format has it’s evangelists.

You should consider exploring each of these avenues and more to truly get the most out of your path to understanding search engine optimization. Some methods are more appropriate for enthusiasts and others for those looking to become SEO professionals some day…. Obviously experience is the best teacher, but what other ways are there these days?

We all learn in our own way….

While there is no end to the SEO advice that permeates the web marketing world, it can often be very difficult to sort out exactly how one should research and where one should turn to learn about SEO. In a follow up to a post I made a year ago, I thought an updated look might be a good idea.

Q: I’ve got a question about internationalization: I have a multinational site with country-coded subdirectories and I’ve registered these as such in Webmasters’ tools, will this be exempt from duplicate content rules for a site spanning uk/us/aus ?
A (John Mueller): That’s generally ok. I would still make sure that the pages are obviously well-targeted for those audiences. It wouldn’t make sense to send users from specific areas to one general page. In that case, I would use a single page without geotargeting.

Q: Hi Maile - thought you might be here - remember playing pool against me at the SEOmoz party and getting your ass whooped?!
A (Maile Ohye): The sun was in my eye.

Q: what’s the time now at your location ?
A (Matt Cutts): I have 2:01 p.m. Pacific time, Moh Design

Q: Just Curious - Why does a yellow background occasionally appear in the bottom search box of the SERP?
A (John Mueller): This sounds like a plugin in your browser .

Q: Does Google look negativly on all caps? <–i can spell i swear
A (John Mueller): nope, we take the letters as they come :)

Q: Q: can Google crawl Flash sites/
A (John Mueller): Somewhat — we can extract some information from the Flash files, but it’s generally not the same as with HTML sites/pages.

Powered Inc.’s senior marketing director provides some easily implemented techniques for expanding your brand’s natural search footprint.

Without a doubt, search is the centerpiece of marketing on the web. Over 90 percent of internet users regularly use the top-five search engines — accounting for what’s been estimated as an average of some 6.2 billion searches per month — to find products, services and information. The Internet Advertising Bureau states it’s the single largest category of online marketing spend. Everybody’s using it and everybody’s doing it.

So is your search engine marketing strategy reaching its maximum potential to get more consumers to flock to your brand? Because sometimes it seems to me the market thinks about it backwards. You’ll hear SEM practitioners (rightly) telling you to focus on structuring sites the right way. But remember, Google’s informal corporate motto is “Don’t be evil.” Wouldn’t that mean focusing on what would be most valuable to the user? And wouldn’t that mean starting by creating good content and a great user experience, then encouraging users to share it?

The list below will tech you how to improve your Google page rank. They are all very easy and simple to do but will prove effective in the long term for your Google page rank;

Submit to Directories
Submitting to High Page Rank directories will definitely help boost your Page Rank. I have put together a free web directory list HERE. Don’t submit to to many at once as it will decrease your page rank due to flooding Google with your links. Submit to no more than 20 Per day! Once you have done this for a few weeks you will notice after the page rank update that your page rank will have gone up.

Back-Links
Getting back links is the most effective way of getting your page rank up. Try to get webmasters with good Page ranks to put your link on there blogroll. Try to get a few high page rank backlinks rather than lots of no page rank baclinks. Sometimes you might have to pay them a few dollars but its worth it. Before submitting your link you should check there page rank. Use this TOOL if its page rank 3 or higher then I would recommend placing your link on their site or blogroll. Try not to exchange links to many times as they cancel each other out. Normally you just exchange links for traffic!

Hi Guys, This Is my latest article on how to successfully gain quality back links.

Directory Submission
This will hugely benefit your Back links because Search Engines use Directories links as backlines. Search Engines Also Use DMOZ and Yahoo to help rank your site.
They are both free to submit to so you have got nothing to loose. Getting submitted to these Directories will help your site no end! The only draw back for this is that it can take month’s maybe years to be listed in them, So Don’t think it’s everything or nothing depending on getting submitted to these 2 directories! As well as getting submitted to these2 Huge Directories, I would recommend submitting to about 5 Page rank 3+ Directories Daily. I have complied A List of 50 Directories to submit to, The List Can be Found HERE

Post Your Article On Forums
Posting a Link to your Article on forums can also help improve your Back links. Use your Anchor Text as your link then link the text to your article. Some Forum Admins allow you to do this Others would prefer you to put the article on the post then Place a link to your blog at the bottom of the article. Both of them are good for your Back links as Well Optimized Forums get threads listed in search engines so you could get traffic through search engines to your thread to your blog. Submitting to forums is also an easy and short process I would recommend doing this! As well as it helping you with building up Back links! Make sure you find forums similar to your blog to post your articles in, as Forum Admins will definitely remove the thread if it has nothing to do with the forums subject.

It is often a preference of the designer to use very little text on a website, but is it possible to achieve good rankings for those pages in search engines’ The answer is yes, but you should follow the guidelines outlined in this document if you wish to succeed.Firstly, let’s look at some facts. Images are slower to load that text, which may lead to your low-band visitors becoming somewhat agitated. There is also the issue of increased bandwidth from the server, which might lead to higher costs in terms of web hosting. If both of these issues are not a problem for you then continue, but so far they alone have been enough to put me off moving to a image only website.

First thing to realize before optimizing is that by having very little text on the page, you will find it harder to rank better, and if you’re in a very competitive market, then I highly advise that you opt to have at least some text on the website.

After you have designed the web page and layout, the first thing to do is ensure that your images / media content is as compressed (in file size) as possible. I personally recommend the XAT.com image optimizer for shaving the bytes off of images, both GIF (non-animated) and JPG. This will be important for many reasons, it will decrease both download time and bandwidth, it’s really a double win situation. The only further advise on this that you should ensure you don’t decrease the image so much that its quality becomes seriously compromised, otherwise your website will look cheap!!

In the business world today and the aggressive environment, many advertisers route to using competitor trademark names as keywords in paid-search advertising. In the Search Engines results pages these trademark names appear for Google, Yahoo! and affiliates and partners when you buy Google AdWords or Overture Precision Match sponsored listings. Thus there are maximum chances that your competitors can drive the significant traffic to their websites by the virtue of your trademark name.

A very good example we can see which we have seen at the interviews.com article titled “Google Adwords Under Further Trademark Scrutiny,” Google quoted that: “As stated in our Terms and Conditions, advertisers are responsible for the keywords and ad text that they choose to use. We encourage trademark owners to resolve their disputes directly with our advertisers, particularly because the advertisers may have similar advertisements on other sites.” It is well known that in the beginning, Google AdWords did not sell trademarked keywords. However, it currently sells trademarked keywords in the U.S. and Canada (but not internationally) with the stipulation that the trademark name can’t be used in the ad copy itself.
